Middle school students participate in STEM program

Student Success — Approximately 80 middle school students are participating in Richland’s 2012 TexPREP Pre-freshman Engineering Program this week, hosted by Richland’s Community Outreach and Recruitment Department. These students who have demonstrated mathematical ability through academic performance are being given the opportunity to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in the college setting. Program funding is provided by Texas Instruments, DISD and United Way. Courses include Logic and its Application to Math, Introduction to Engineering, Problem Solving, and Robotics. Students are also participating in team projects, class presentations, career awareness seminars by industry leaders, and off-campus field trips relating to STEM careers.
