Awards honor TRIO-Upward Bound students’ efforts
Student Success – Richland’s TRIO-Upward Bound program hosted its annual awards banquet on July 13 to recognize the outstanding academic efforts made by Upward Bound students who participated in Richland’s summer enrichment program. Students in grades 9-11 spent six weeks at Richland preparing for next year’s high school coursework in math, science, and language arts, while recently graduated high school seniors enrolled in college classes as part of the program’s Bridge component. During the banquet a $500 scholarship from Chums, a service organization, was awarded to Mekderlawit Belachew for outstanding academic achievement. Terrance Lockett and Elizabeth Ortega each received $250 scholarships from Jack and Jill, a local service organization that promotes higher education pursuits for youth.
